Coastal Terrestrial Plants in Metchosin.

For posts in the Coastal Land Plants Category: https://metchosinmarine.ca/gf/?cat=89

The main plant community habitats could be grouped as follows:

  • Clay Cliffs
  • Rock Cliffs
  • sand substrate
  • mud substrate- (estuarine)

The different habitats of our coastline enable very different communities of plants. A combination of specific physical factors determine the plant associations of the shorelines.

  • slope of the shore
  • type of substrate, ( eg.mud,clay sand)
  • Exposure to salt spray,
  • Exposure to sunlight.
  • Exposure to sediment deposition
  • Exposure to erosion.. wind or water.

Some examples of plant communities to be discussed are contained in the following shore sector pages.
